How can I stay out of the net and set the ball better in volleyball?

In volleyball, I have two foremost problems: lifting the ball when i try to set, and touching the net!

what are some tips on how to set better?
what is a penetrating way to stay out of the net?

To tarry out of the net, i'd practice footwork, like the steps to take when approaching the net. And for home, practice against a wall or something, try to touch the ball with the "pads" of your fingers, and nothing else. MO = 'modus operandi' short light taps.
