2A: Olpe overcomes loss, reaches semifinals

EMPORIA — There’s a penalize line between tears of sorrow and tears of joy, and the Olpe volleyball team discharge all of Friday at the Class 2A state tournament treading it.
For the bulk of the day, heartbreak appeared to be in store for the Eagles. A wastage to Wabaunsee to start the day put Olpe’s back against the wall for the remainder of cartel play and, needing to upset Smith Center in the final agree, Olpe got thumped 25-16 in the first game.
Yet the tears streaking down the Eagles’ faces at the end of the day were those of complete exhilaration. Olpe mounted a dramatic comeback, claiming a 25-22 win in the second game and pulling out a soul-stirring 28-26 victory in the third to knock off the Redmen and claim the No. 1 shabby in Pool 1 at White Auditorium.
“We know what it feels like not to succeed out on top, and we didn’t want to feel that again,” Olpe postpositive major Emmy Redeker said, referring to last year’s Importance 1A Division I state tournament where the Eagles finished as state blade-up after a three-game loss to St. John. “We have a lot of heart, and that’s how we came back and played our ploy and made it our day.
