MANILA, Philippines—It needed line, but University of Santo Tomas simply affirmed what longtime take charge of coach Henberd Ortalla was already confident of since day one—in spite of the tougher entr his squad took.
University of Santo Tomas succeeded in its tenure defense in the UAAP men’s table tennis title as it swept Far Eastern University, 3-0, 3-1, in the largest-of-three finals Sunday.
“It was my prediction that we would win again this year. I believe we have the advantage in skills,” said Ortalla, who has stirred the force to eight titles since he took over in 1997.
UST had to jump through hoops of fire to set up the finals showdown FEU when it cut to third place in the final four and had to overcome La Salle’s crippling twice-to-batter incentive.
“I told my players then that we would never lose again,” said Ortalla, as his unit had to shake off a disappointing first round.
