Anay Dave lived up to expectations, defeating competitor Vedant Shah in the final of the sub-junior boys category in the Khar Gymkhana MSDTTA locality table tennis championships here on Saturday.
Top seeded Dave was on top of his game as he demolished Shah 4-1 (11-7 11-8 11-5 7-11 11-7).
The duo has played against each other in seven finals this year. Dave now leads supporter-seeded Shah with four victories.
Thirteen-year-old Dave is ranked four in the under-14 grade in Maharashtra. He took up the sport only four years ago. “I used to pleasure cricket before switching to table tennis. I started playing table tennis only because my father advised me to. He had played cricket and believed that TT would recover my hand-eye co-ordination. However, after playing the two sports simultaneously, I started getting better at table tennis. In the first year itself, I won an intra-trounce band tournament and then went on to win other tournaments,” he said
Dave is a devotee of Jamnabai Narsee School, Juhu. He has won the MSSA table tennis title representing his faction this year.
